Hey,
Was browsing the internet, and suddenly found this! ****** launches its Get India Business Online (GIBO service). It seems that ****** now would offer free domain + hosting.

A free, easy-to-build, professional website
A free .in domain name and Hostgator hosting for one year
Free email addresses
Free online tools & resources

India being a hugely populated country & being highly active in the IT sector, won't this attract huge traffic? There can be a lot of abuse as well. What do you think?

PS: It would also deteriorate the existing value of a .in domain. lol.

Yes India only. You need to verify your nationality with a Permanent Account Number (PAN).

A PAN is a set of verified numbers existing in a database held by the Income Tax Department, Ministry of Finance, Govt. Of India.

Every such number is validated and can't be forged.

There's no way you can fake it. :/

Well, I would like to know why they actually need that number? Or will we need it later when we got the website?

Well, its like why does PayPal ask for a credit card. Why GoDaddy accepts payments from a verified PayPal!
As simple as that. PAN is only for a valid proof of Indian nationality and a legal document for Personal verification. It is NOT a kind of Social Security Number (SSN), but it can be compared to one.
