Here is a few tips for owning a Roleplay server. ( or if your thinking of starting one. )

Don't give admin to anyone who asks. Make sure the Co-Owner will not abuse.
Make Sure he/she can RP well
Get 50 player slots or more
Make rules ASAP
Get forums
Get a script and edit the sh*t out of it ( If your new to opening a server ) or make a script from scratch
Get 1 developer who can script and map, Who won't screw you over.
Get forums, Try and get a PAID vBulletin. If you can't you can use freeforums or a SMF host.
Be strict on DMers,Hackers and Non RPers, Teach them how to RP
Don't refund. The players will leave because they got what they wanted. Hard to understand I know.
Get a HOST! I have seen TONS of servers with home host. It will kill your computer and it will never really attract players.

Hahaha.

Now, great, if they sticky this we'll even have more kids with Godfather based roleplay servers. How can anyone even make SURE he has a playerbase of 50 players. You start with ZERO, its not like you BUY players, seriously, use some common sense before posting.

Getting a player base of 50 people or more is terribly hard. Let me edit those rules for you.

Don't give admin to anyone who asks. Make sure the Co-Owner will not abuse.
Make Sure he/she can RP well
Try and get a playerbase of 25 or more. If you are growing. No need to worry.
Make rules ASAP
Get forums, Try and get a PAID vBulletin. If you can't you can use freeforums or a SMF host.
Get a custom script. Don't download one from here if you expect to get players.
Get 1 developer who can script and map, Who won't screw you over.
Be strict on DMers,Hackers, Try to teach the NON-RPers

I can't get it into my tiny mind why anyone would still buy a shitty vBulletin .. It's not because most big forums (which were created years ago) use it that it is actually good. I can probably name a handful of features vBulletin lacks, that other (sometimes free) forum systems do have.

IMO:
IPB > XenForo > SMF > PhpBB > MyBB > vBulletin

And this "guide" is coming from a "player" who never experienced this but more likely failed.
