Anyways my favorite forum software is a free one and ofc it's SMF.

It depends on what you actually need. Simple Machines Forum seems to do the trick for most people, it also has hundreds of themes and plugins. phpBB seems to be nice as well and a little more 'professional' looking. I like Invision Power Board though...

No. I believe I paid $150 for the software itself then there is an optional fee to pay every so often so I can get support and download the updates. It's worth every penny though, 10x better then vBulletin itself.

Agreed, looks better out of the box than VB.

Free must be SMF.
