New Graphics Card - Help - StrickenKid - 13.09.2010

Well,

I don't really know what to do, I've spent almost 3 weeks trying to get a new graphics card working, and still nothing works...

It all started about 2 and a half weeks ago when I was browsing Best Buy, I saw a graphics card I really wanted and was a good deal for the price, it was a VisionTek Radeon HD 5670 1gb ddr5, the box looked like this:

I bought it, brought it home and installed it in my computer, replacing my old Nvidia 9500GT 512mb, turned my computer on and nothing.... Not even the bios screen nor any startup sounds. So I took it back, talked to one of the guys at geeksquad, they said it could be a bad card OR your power supply isn't enough, I had a 400w and that's what the card required, 400w or more... So I exchanged the card and got a new one... Same thing happened. So then I think its the power supply, so I looked at power supplies at best buy and they were too expensive, I didn't have another $100 to spend on just a power supply. So I ended up getting my money back for the card, which costed $150, and I went to NewEGG.

With the help of a friend, I found a great deal on the same card but different manufacture, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...S%205670%201gb. The HIS HD 5670 1gb ddr5, So I buy that along with a 450w power supply, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-057-_-Product. They both came out to around $160.

About an hour ago, they both were delivered, I installed both of them started up my computer and......
NOTHING.

So at this point idk what to do, so i'm asking help from you guys.

Computer Specs:
Код:
HP a6037c
Intel Core 2 CPU 4400 @ 2.00GHz
3GB ram
Windows 7
1 PCIe x16 slot
Nvidia 9500 GT 512mb - current card
450w power supply - new
Manufacture Info
Note: there's only 1 other card, which is some modem with the phone jack, I've tried the graphics card with and without this modem card and nothing works.

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated!

Make sure its the right slot..
Also make sure your drivers are updated, which you probably checked this if you could've got access to your desktop.
I will look into this for you.

Woah... 450W? Fella, forget watts. Tell us the brand/model of the PSU to let you know if it will support your GPU. I had a so called, 650W PSU, but it blew up my 9800GTX+ because of months of under-power and stress. Its all about amps, rails, and the quality of the PSU.

I just thought I'd let you know, if you want to buy it, and have it fried, go right ahead. I never listened to people thinking my old 7200GS was the same as a 9800GTX+ and it screwed me over financially.

Re: New Graphics Card - Help - StrickenKid - 13.09.2010

I posted a link to the newegg page of the psu in the original topic, here it is again: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-057-_-Product

@sTeAlthy:
Yes its the right slot...
For the drivers, which ones?
The card should work without the drivers because the instructions say to install the drivers after installing the card.

Thank you for helping

And you did get a 6Pin plug to the 2x molar? Make sure that is plugged in, as the card won't start without the extra power.

Re: New Graphics Card - Help - Jaymzanator - 14.09.2010

sounds like power's not plugged in. check the 6pin connector.

did you get a cable that looked like this

Re: New Graphics Card - Help - StrickenKid - 14.09.2010

The card does not take an extra power connector.

Shows one in the picture.

Re: New Graphics Card - Help - StrickenKid - 14.09.2010

where?

edit: I don't know why that power adapter is in the pic, it didn't come with the card and the card does not require extra power.

edit2: I just did some googling and I found this: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/28...d5670-problems
Looks like its my motherboard :S

Re: New Graphics Card - Help - woot - 14.09.2010

I had the same problem, my PC was OEM, it sucked. According to the store I went the motherboard was the fault, it couldn't transfer enough power. (sounds weird, inorite) Got a new motherboard for around ~80, works like a charm now! (9800GT 1GB)
