GTA SA - Back-Up Fail? -
DeathOnaStick - 23.04.2010
Hey ppl!
I got following problem:
I've lost my GTA SA disc (really!) and wanted to Install Win7. That's why i put my GTA SA program folder on my external hard drive. NOW I wanted to paste it to my Program files again, after i reinstalled windows, so i could play it again.
Gamefiles under
C:\Program Files\Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
Userfiles under
C:\Users\AndrŠ¹\Documents\GTA San Andreas User Files
So maybe was it a bit stupid from me to believe this would work, but i tried and it didn't. Is there any way to fix without Buying
or downloading it again? Anyone got an idea why it doesn't work?
Thanks!

You'll probably have to buy it again. And buy it, don't download it.

You can't play it without the installation.

I did that, and it works perfectly fine for me. You should delete your user files (at least the config), though.

Userfiles deleted (i created the folder, though), the gtasa.exe process runs in task manager, but no actual game pops up.
Can anyone send me a screenshot of his Gta-Sa folder pls, cuz mine is real messed up atm. Is there something to delete in the main folder?

You need to create keys for GTA San Andreas in windows registry.

You don't need to do that either.
I had the same situation as Death, but I copied it to my USB stick and then formatted my hard drive (and also got a new computer), copied it back, and it worked fine. I also left GTA SA on my USB stick and can play it anywhere I want without installing or doing anything.
