You cannot play SA:MP on steam, and why would you want to? Steam is annoying (in my opinion).

Yes indeed

Anyway, SA-MP is FREE, so it's not on steam I think.

It's got nothing to do with that. SA-MP only works with version 1.0 of GTA SA, and the Steam version is 3.0. The Steam version also cannot be downgraded.

I heard it was possible illegally, but as stated in several other posts before its against the rules.

So don't do it , just go out and buy the game it's like 5$ now.
